Bachelor and bachelorette parties
Marking the transition from the single, independent lifestyle to the shared commitments of married life, bachelor and bachelorette parties are more than just a party, they are a rite of passage.
Bachelor and bachelorette parties these days have much more options. Sexuality and drinking no longer are the "must-do" activities at these events. Creativity and celebration are more the order of the day. The guys may opt to go to a sporting event, play sports themselves or take a camping trip. Women might enjoy a day at the spa, shopping trips or head off to a restaurant for a memorable dinner.
If you are planning to host one of these fun pre-wedding events, here are some basics you'll want to keep in mind.
Bachelor and Bachelorette Party Planning Considerations
- These events are usually organized by the best man, maid of honor or other members of the bridal party.
- The bride or groom do NOT pay for their activities. The participants in the party pay the full bill. Make sure you plan an activity that is affordable to everyone expected to pay the bill.
- Plan ahead, just don't worry about it too much. By nature, these parties are play it by ear. If something doesn't work out, go somewhere else. It's not about planning the perfect day (leave that for the wedding), it's about having a good time! Keep an eye on your bachelor or bachelorette. If they look uncomfortable or bored, change plans.
- Whether you have a group of four or a crew of a dozen, if your party involves a Rochester restaurant or club, always call ahead first. Reservations are highly recommended.
- Little touches can make the usual a bit more special. Rent a limo from one of our Rochester NY limousine specialists or call ahead to the Rchester club or restaurant your thinking of going to and tell them you're with a bachelor/bachelorette party. Ask if they would be willing to throw in any extras, personalize desserts or perhaps create a signature drink.
- It's quite alright to surprise the bride or groom with the planned activity for his or her send-off party, however, you should ALWAYS keep in mind the personality and wishes of the bride or groom. Even if everyone else at the party are expecting and desire a stripper, the preferences of the guest of honor need to be respected. Don't embarrass the bride or groom with anything that you really know would not amuse them.
- These events are a perfect opportunity to warmly poke fun with the bride or groom, make a few off-color jokes about married life (again, as long as you know they won't be offended). So plan for lots of amusing toasts. Ask a few guests to prepare a toast in advance to get things started.
- Anyone who is invited to the bachelor/bachelorette party should also be on the guest list for the wedding.
- As tempting as it may be, don't plan this party for the night before the wedding. The Bride and groom need to be at their best for the wedding day, and if alcohol is involved, that's not likely to be the case. Even if alcohol isn't involved, there's usually lots of last minute details for the bride or groom to attend to on the day before the wedding.
